In a town that takes all meals pretty seriously, it’s no surprise that Taco Tuesday has become somewhat of an institution here in Foodtopia. Having made it past Monday, but still with plenty of work week ahead, Ashevillians spend their Tuesday evenings turning to the most reliable source of comfort: tacos. Asheville loves it’s tacos just as much as any other foodie city, and we understand the choices can be a little overwhelming- so we’ve narrowed down some of Asheville’s best taco spots for you to enjoy for Taco Tuesday… or any other day of the week!
White Duck Taco
With 5 locations now in the South East and another one on the way, it’s no secret that White Duck Taco is a local favorite. We love the creativity and international flare their tacos bring to the plate. We highly recommend the Bangkok Shrimp taco; a fried shrimp concoction in a sesame glaze topped with a curry aioli and house-made pickles. For Taco Tuesday the shop offers $2 Tecate! You may visit them at their River Arts location at 1 Roberts Street, or downtown on Biltmore Avenue.
Zia Taqueria
Zia Taqueria is without a doubt the best place westside to get your taco on. Zia is known for using fresh, local ingredients to create tacos true to authentic mexican style, while utilizing what’s in their own back yard. We like to stay basic with this one; their carnitas and fish tacos are some of the best we’ve ever had. In addition, Zia’s tacos are rivaled only by their selection of delicious and creative margaritas- all made with fresh squeezed juices. Taco specials change daily so stop in and see what kind of deals you can score! Zia is located on 521 Haywood Road and is open for both lunch and dinner.
Mojo Kitchen and Lounge
Although Mojo offers way m
ore than tacos, this was the original concept of the business, and the restaurant still pays homage to them by offering them to their taco-hungry guests. Mojo’s chef, AJ Gregson, is known for creative use of local ingredients, and his tacos are a great example of how casual comfort food can also be dynamic and delicious. Mojo is open Tuesday-Sunday for lunch and dinner (and brunch on Sunday!) and you may find them at 55 College Street.
Mamacitas
Mamacitas is the Taco Tuesday that started it all!! With $2 tacos all day long, this taco deal definitely can’t be beat! Mamacitas has a dizzying array of fresh ingredients you may choose for your tacos, and you get to watch as the talented taco engineers put them together. Needless to say Taco Tuesday can get crowded…but don’t let the line deter you! The Pot of taco gold at the end of the rainbow is totally worth the wait. Mamacitas is open every day from 8am-10pm and is located at 77A Biltmore Avenue.
