The Asheville South Slope Gets A Food Tour
Greetings Foodtopia Followers, many of you have heard of the Asheville South Slope by now, but do you really know everything that’s going on in the down under side of the city? Sure there are like 78 breweries or something(actually 9 give or take) and lots of urban warehouse landscapery, but there is also loads of great food being cooked on that there hill. Enough great food that it seemed like a logical step for our Asheville food tour outfit to start an Asheville South Slope Tour. So…you guessed it, that’s what we did. And now that we are running tours every Saturday—and soon too be every Friday too—you have the perfect opportunity to learn more about the Asheville South Slope in one fell swoop.
New Beginnings for Asheville South Slope
Fifteen years ago, this once bustling factory and warehouse district had become entirely an area for storage with a lot of vacant buildings. Since then, the Asheville South Slope has bloomed into becoming a showcase for what makes the city great: the marriage of old and new into a new identity. Aside from being a hotbed for brews, you’ve got historic Church Street boasting a row of—suprise!—churches built in the early 20th century, art studios, Sow True Seeds, a sustainable gardening outlet, a chocolate factory, the headquarters of national sensation Eagles Nest Outfitters(ENO), the bus depot, event venues, technically The Orange Peel is in this territory, the list goes on. More importantly though, there is now a growing presence of great food.
We tried to capture the Asheville South Slope by strolling by these places of note and by eating and drinking at some of Asheville’s best restaurants(and one factory): Bhramari Brewhouse, Storm Rhum Bar & Bistro, 67 Biltmore, Ben’s Tune-Up, Buxton Hall Barbecue and the French Broad Chocolate Factory. It was a great tour as illustrated by our gallery below. These tours are selling out fast, so check our calendar to book a reservation ASAP. There’s no better way to entertain friends and family and check out the city as a visitor or local in an entirely unique and gastronomical way!
