Greetings Footopia fans and Asheville dessert aficionados! We certainly count ourselves lucky to live amongst so many amazing restaurants in downtown Asheville. It seems like we have everything you could possibly be craving; from classic american farm-to-table to unique international cuisines. And when it comes to treating yourself after the delicious meal, Asheville has got you covered there as well. Below we’ve listed some must-try ways to satisfy that sweet tooth in downtown Asheville.
French Broad Chocolate Lounge
It’s no secret that French Broad Chocolates is one of the most successful establishments in Asheville. Just take one look at the line of eager chocolate-lovers snaking around the building and you’ll see that this place has got something special going on. Not only does French Broad boast some of the best treats in all of downtown (with everything ranging from brownies and cookies to milkshakes and liquid truffles), but they also do amazing things for our community. We love the way owners Dan and Jael take strides to give back by making their restaurant green certified, sourcing single origin cocoa, donating to the local community and more. Turns out you CAN eat your chocolate and feel good about it to!
French Broad Chocolate lounge is located downtown at 10 South Pack Square.
Asheville Chocolate
Asheville Chocolate is one of the only places in town that hand dips all of their chocolate, and that extra effort can definitely be tasted. In addition, these guys are the ones who supply all the chocolate to the Biltmore Estate- so they are very busy hand-rolling chocolatiers! Owner Melissa explains to our food tours that hand dipping their chocolate allows that perfect crisp as you bite into their truffles. She also explains the reason for their perfectly creamy gelato- which she attributes to the “spoiled cows” down the street. Whatever the reason, we certainly can’t get enough of it!
Asheville Chocolate / is located downtown at 25 Broadway Street.
DoughP Doughnuts
Asheville definitely seems be going through a bit of a donut renaissance these days. Amidst all the donut loving goodness out there, one place has certainly stood out for us. Every morning around 6am, chef Jay Metdford arrives at The Underground Cafe (where Doughp Doughnuts is housed) to start churning out some fresh creations. What really makes this place take the cake for us are the creative flavors that he comes up with. Donut flavors change daily, but you can expect to find anything from a mango habanero to a blood orange bone marrow. Jay also takes extra effort to source locally and collaborate with fellow downtown businesses. We particularly love the chocolate glazes he makes using the good stuff from next door at French Broad.

Sunshine Sammies
Finally, someone has come along and given a nod to everyone’s favorite nostalgic childhood treat; the ice cream sandwich. This is no ordinary ice cream sandwich however. Sunshine Sammies takes extra care in making hand crafted all natural treats that feature unique flavors like blueberry basil and lemon olive oil. Find their solar powered cart around various Asheville festivals or visit their storefront location at 99 South Lexington Avenue. (They can also now be found in many local grocery stores!)
Gourmet Chip Company
Okay, The Gourmet Chip Company isn’t TECHNICALLY a dessert shop… but they have
such deliciously wonderful options for a sweet treat we just had to share. In addition to their creative savory flavors, they also offer dessert chips that feature their buttery sweet potato chips topped with delicious add-ons such as belgium chocolate shavings, house-made caramel sauce and even (if you’re feeling adventurous) bacon!
The Gourmet Chip Company is located downtown at 43 1/2 Broadway Street
