Greetings gastronomes, the Asheville wine scene is one of the best in the country and remains vibrant in spite of the avalanche of attention–with good reason– that craft beer gets around here. North Carolina is one of the major wine markets in the country, and Asheville wine lists are as diverse and eclectic as any in the state. That means good things for Asheville wine drinkers, because many small producers can only distribute wines in select areas of the country because there just isn’t much to go around. Because of the strength of that market, the adventurous Asheville wine palate and the fortune of having many small importers within our state we get to see and drink a lot of wines here that most places in the U.S. don’t.
One of the best places to do this is at Asheville’s oldest wine bar, Santé, and THE best time to drink wine at Santé is during their monthly flight night. Flight Nights are a chance to enjoy everything that Santé is about–interesting, well made wine with warm hospitality and friendly knowledge to be shared–with the added bonus of having trade professionals on hand to pour and discuss a themed selection of exclusive wines. Flight Night is a sellout every month, and with good reason. These events are as enjoyable as they are educational and you get the chance to partake in great food and major deals on the retail purchase of the wines featured.
This month’s tasting will be a good one, featuring Beaujolais from boutique distributor Proof. Beaujolais is a pretty unique place in the word, with granite soil lining the hills south of Burgundy. Wine from this region is unlike any other, and has become known as a go to pairing for traditional Thanksgiving and holiday dishes. Kate Stamp from Proof will be on hand with the Santé crew pouring five wines: Terres Dorees Beaujolais Blanc, Terres Dorees L’Ancien Rouge, Domaine de Colette Beaujolais-Villages, Domaine de Colette Regnie and Domaine de Colette Moulin A Vent.
This one of a kind Asheville wine event will be this Tuesday, November 15 at 7pm.
