If you’re looking for a tasty way to warm up in foodtopia this winter, join one of Asheville’s best restaurants, Isa’s Bistro, for a Schug wine paring dinner!! This event will take place January 24th, and is a collaboration between Isa’s Bistro and the Asheville School of Wine.
Schug winemaker Mike Cox will be on hand to introduce five wines, paired with courses from Isa’s Bistro chef Duane Fernandes. Dishes will include chilled shrimp and blue crab with kale and fennel salad, served with 2015 Schug Sonoma Sauvignon Blanc. There’s also a roasted North Carolina pork shoulder with sweet potatoes, leeks and roasted mushrooms with 2014 Schug Carneros Pinot Noir.
Isa’s Bistro has been known as one of Asheville’s best restaurants since opening it’s doors in 2013. Chef Duane Fernandes leads the culinary team at Isa’s and comes with no shortage of impressive experience, including the four-star Horizons restaurant at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa. Fernandes also previously acted as the Executive Chef of Gabrielle’s at the Richmond Hill Inn. Fernandez is easily one of Asheville’s best chefs, and strives to prepare cuisine that is innovative, seasonally inspired and new American.
The winery featured at the dinner is also an impressive one. Founded in 1980, Schug Carneros Estate Winery is the showcase and life-long dream of one of California’s most celebrated winemakers, Walter Schug. Drawing on his experience in the production of fine wines in Germany and as founding Winemaker for Joseph Phelps in California, Walter along with his wife Gertrud built the winery to focus on Pinot Noir. In 1995, Sonoma native Mike Cox joined the team as Winemaker with Walter Schug overseeing the business as Winemaster. Nestled in the hills of the cool climate of the Carneros Appellation, the winery is dedicated to Walter’s original passion for graceful and elegant Pinot Noirs.
This month’s Schug wine tasting at Isa’s Bistro is sure to be a wonderful way to learn more about these wines while experiencing one of Asheville’s most popular restaurants. The dinner will be held on Tuesday January 25th at 6pm. The cost is $75 including tax and gratuity. Call Isa’s Bistro at 828-575-9636 for reservations.
