Greetings Foodtopia fans! As we find ourselves right smack in the dead of winter, it can be easy to snuggle up and hide from the wintery outdoors. Thankfully, several of Asheville’s best restaurants have come up with fun and delicious ways to tempt you out of your fuzzy socks this month!
Mardi Gras Celebrations at Pete’s Pies (Sunday, Feb 11th)
This Sunday is Mardi Gras- and gives local Foodtopian’s the opportunity to come out of winter hibernation and celebrate! After the local parade (which takes place in South Slope promptly at 3Pm) Pete’s pies has got you covered for continued celebrations! Pete’s will open around 11 am and be serving up Mardi Gras traditions such as Gumbo with white rice and Cornbread, King cake and (of course) Hurricane cocktails. From 5pm-10 they will feature live Bayou music and Mardi Gras drink specials!
Donut and Beer Paring with DoughP Doughnuts and Twin Leaf Brewing (Saturday, Feb. 24th)
One of our favorite new restaurants in downtown Asheville is undoubtedly DoughP
Donuts. Operating out of The Undergound Cafe (which is equally as delicious) chef Jay Medford pumps out Donuts that are as creative as they are delicious. We’re so excited to see Jay paring up with other local favorites such as French Broad Chocolates and, for this new event, Twin Leaf Brewing!
In the perfect union for beer and donut lovers (i.e., all of us) the two are offering 3 specialty donuts paired with 3 unique craft brews. Because the first run of the donut & beer pairing was SO delicious and so very popular, they have decided to feature a monthly collaboration! These events will be held the last Saturday of each month at Twin Leaf Brewing (144 Coxe Avenue) and will feature a monthly rotating menu.
A sensory Valentines Experience and a Chocolate Workshop with French Broad Chocolates (Feb 10 & Feb 25.)
Lucky for us, French Broad Chocolates has got not one, but two, chocolatey tricks up their sleeve! Starting this Saturday, February 10 (from 3-6) they will be hosting a FREE, fun, family-friendly sensory chocolate tasting at their Factory at 21 Buxton Ave in Downtown Asheville! Guests will have the opportunity to sample the coveted Aphrodisiac collections as well as partake in guided mini-tours of the chocolate factory!
French broad will also be teaming up with East Fork Pottery for an informative and tasty Chocolate Workshop. Details below:
“Join us for an interactive discussion and learn how and where French Broad sources their chocolate and how their commitment to sustainability impacts their practices. You’ll get to taste your way through a variety of unique single origin chocolates and learn the secret to their famed (and crazy delicious) “liquid truffle”.”
This event will be held at East Fork (82 North Lexington Ave Asheville, NC) and tickets are $35
