The taste of international travel couldn’t possibly get closer to home.
Blue Dream Curry House celebrates their one-year anniversary with a shindig at their downtown location Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
“When you start something you throw a rock into a pond, you can’t control how the ripples spread out,” said Chris Cunningham, co-owner of Blue Dream Curry House. “Overall it’s been an amazing experience, and we’re really fortunate to have the support of this town every step of the way.”
As a founding member of Asheville’s International District, in one short year Blue Dream Curry House, located at 81 Patton Ave., has made a name for themselves as one of the leading independent restaurants in Asheville and a model for social reform in the industry as a whole.
Blue Dream Curry House is living wage certified and one of the first in the city to pioneer a non-tipping system.
“We are big believers in eliminating the gulf between the front and the back of the house, because it takes a team to provide great hospitality,” said Cunningham. “What we found is that most people are ecstatic.”
Cunningham said this alteration is proving to be a healthy change to the traditional restaurant tipping system.
Even more proof that a healthy meal can spark a healthy change.
The health benefits provided by a good curry are almost insurmountable, and with the skillful chefs over at Blue Dream Curry House, you can expect your meals to benefit the body as well as the soul.
Studies have shown that curry powders have the ability to prevent Alzheimer’s, reduce inflammation, reduce blood pressure, and even suppress cancer. Now that’s a powder packing a punch.
“It’s the combination of spices that do different things to your brain and to your body,” said Cunningham. “Something about those things interacting really makes you feel good and are super healthy.”
From Japanese curries to Thai curries to Indian curries, Blue Dream Curry House allows you to sample all flavors of this worldly dish in a single sitting.
They keep a diverse and robust rotating menu, ensuring that there are always variant options awaiting even the most cultivated curry connoisseur.
Though Blue Dream Curry House, holds such a broad and worldly perspective on their meals, their roots are firmly planted in the local community.
“Independent businesses thrive if we support the local economy and keep money in our town,” said Cunningham, who takes pride in Blue Dream Curry House’s local sourcing and commitment to the environment. “That’s what we strive to do every day is to use the money that comes into Blue Dream to continue to support local businesses.”
Following their philosophies, which can be found printed on the wall of their restaurant, Blue Dream Curry House has become a progressive model in the restaurant industry and as a member of the Asheville community.
“It is up to us to lead the way as a town,” said Cunningham. “Especially because we come in contact with so many tourists. It’s great that they can come into Asheville and leave with a little bit of Asheville in their hearts”
With kind spirits and elevated flavors, Blue Dream Curry House welcomes you to experience their one of a kind business, and celebrate with them for their one-year anniversary.
